Before and after Holi, it's essential to avoid skincare products that can potentially exacerbate skin sensitivity or react adversely with the colors used during the festivities. In case you are following a skincare routine, you must be aware of what to use and what not to during holi festival. We talked to expert dermatologists, Dr Ishmeet Kaur & Dr Deepak Jakhar (consultant dermatologists at Dermosphere Clinic). Here are some products to steer clear of:

1. Harsh Cleansers: Avoid using harsh, drying cleansers containing sulfates or alcohol before and after Holi. These can strip your skin of its natural oils, making it more vulnerable to irritation from colors.

2. Exfoliating Scrubs: Skip abrasive exfoliants, particularly those with physical exfoliants like microbeads or walnut shells. These can cause micro-tears in the skin, making it more susceptible to irritation from colors.

3. Acidic Skincare: Products containing alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta hydroxy acids (BHAs), such as glycolic acid or salicylic acid, should be used with caution before and after Holi. These ingredients can increase skin sensitivity and may react unpredictably with the colors.

4. Fragranced Products: Avoid skincare products with artificial fragrances or perfumes, as these can contain allergens that may exacerbate skin reactions to colors.

5. Retinol Products: Steer clear of retinol or retinoid-based products in the days leading up to Holi, as they can increase skin sensitivity and make your skin more susceptible to irritation from colors.

6. Heavy Makeup: Avoid heavy makeup products, especially oil-based foundations or concealers, as they can trap color pigments in your pores and make them harder to remove.

7. Strong Chemical Peels or Treatments: Refrain from undergoing strong chemical peels or intensive skincare treatments close to Holi. These can weaken the skin's barrier function and increase the risk of adverse reactions to colors.

8. New or Unfamiliar Products: Avoid experimenting with new skincare products or treatments just before or after Holi. Stick to familiar products that your skin is accustomed to in order to minimize the risk of unexpected reactions.

By avoiding these skincare products before and after Holi, you can reduce the likelihood of skin irritation or allergic reactions and enjoy a safe and colorful celebration. In case, if you develop any type of skin reactions, get in touch with your dermatologist.
